UNILAG hosts German GIZ delegation at NITHub to review tech training projects
German officials visited UNILAG to review tech training projects and discuss new opportunities for students in Nigeria's digital economy.

The Management of UNILAG hosted a German delegation on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at NITHub. The delegation was led by Professor Dr Wolfgang Stefinger, Chairman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development, and represented GIZ. They arrived via the university waterfront and were received by Deputy Vice‑Chancellors for Management Services and for Academics & Research, Professors Muyiwa Falaiye and Mathew Ilori, before touring the NITHub facilities and meeting start‑ups and interns.
Speaking for Vice‑Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Professor Falaiye thanked the German Government and GIZ for their support of NITHub. He highlighted that the partnership is valuable for infrastructure, faculty support and research funding, and reaffirmed UNILAG’s commitment to using donated facilities effectively and sustaining international collaborations.
Dr Marcus Wagner, Country Director of GIZ and ECOWAS Nigeria, described the investment as money well spent and said the visit underscored the importance of cooperation among development agencies, universities and industry to build relevant tech skills, support emerging enterprises and connect young people with opportunities in Nigeria’s digital economy.
Panel Discussion on Training and Industry
A fireside chat titled “GIZ/DTC Nigeria Cooperation with Partners: Creating Opportunities for Well‑Trained Specialists” formed a major part of the programme. Panelists included Professor Victor Odumuyiwa, Ms Anita Agbakoba, Mr Oscar Esio, Mr Aderinola Oloruntoye and Dr Thuweba Diwani as moderator. Discussions covered training pathways, market linkages, industry‑university collaborations and the gaming sector’s growth potential.
Participants raised questions on access to training and support systems. UNILAG responded by outlining initiatives such as the INCLUDE programme and NELFUND. Mr Oloruntoye also pointed to SAP’s free training and certification opportunities for faculty and students.
Professor Dr Stefinger congratulated UNILAG on its progress in technology education, praised the impact of NITHub and assured continued cooperation to promote technology, innovation and youth development.
