Google and Idris Elba's The Akuna Group are partnering to champion African creators shaping artificial intelligence for authentic storytelling. The initiative is called From Script to Screen with AI and is supported by US$1 million in funding from Google.org.

The initiative is designed to equip visual storytellers across the continent with creative, technical, and practical artificial intelligence tools. The programme is delivered in partnership with Curious Refuge, a leading generative AI education platform. It aims to bridge technical artificial intelligence education with real-world production pathways.

Eligibility and Application Details

The program is open to creative practitioners, filmmakers, animators, and digital storytellers. Applicants must have an existing body of work and a drive to experiment with new creative tools. The initiative is open to creators across five African territories, namely Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and South Africa.

The application portal is currently open for submissions. Applications close on November 15th 2026. The first cohort kicks off in February 2027, and for more details on the program visit the website.
