Early-career legal scholars can apply for this mentorship program by 31 October 2026, with priority for travel support given to scholars from the Global South.
Closed on 31 October 2026
The International Society of Public Law has announced a call for applications for the fifth edition of its Winter/Summer School for Junior Scholars. The program is scheduled to take place from 17 to 27 May 2027 in Sydney, Australia. The program is designed to support aspiring academics and early-career researchers by providing opportunities to strengthen their research, improve academic writing and publishing skills, receive expert mentorship, and connect with an international community of scholars.
The 2027 Winter/Summer School will be convened by Professor Rosalind Dixon, a former Co-President of ICON•S. The program is jointly organized by ICON•S through its Committee on Community and Engagement and a group of academic centers, law schools, and partner organizations. The organizers intend to select approximately 12 to 15 participants for this edition. One of the central features of the school is the opportunity for participants to workshop a draft article or chapter, requiring applicants to submit an abstract of the paper or chapter they intend to workshop.
Who can apply
- Applications are open to junior scholars, as defined by the program's eligibility criteria.
- The program defines a junior scholar as an aspiring career academic who self-identifies as such and or whose terminal degree for entering the profession has not yet begun, is currently being completed, or was earned within the previous five years, excluding career breaks.
- Priority for travel support will be given to scholars from the Global South.
What it offers
- There is no application fee.
- The organizers will provide accommodation for the duration of the school in individual rooms with shared bathrooms, though a limited number of participants with medical needs or special circumstances may request rooms with private bathrooms subject to availability.
- Visa fees are provided as part of the program's support, and some meals will also be provided.
- A limited number of travel bursaries may be available for applicants who cannot obtain travel funding from their universities or other organizations.
How to apply
- Interested applicants should prepare their application documents and submit them through the Oxford Abstracts platform before the deadline.
- Applicants seeking a travel bursary should indicate this in the relevant section of the application form and state whether their participation depends on receiving it.
- The application deadline is 31 October 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
