The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria accreditation team visited the University of Ilorin and praised its engineering programmes on October 28, 2026. The team highlighted the University's committed academic staff, high staff retention, functional facilities and positive employer feedback, and urged the institution to implement the recommendations made during the visit.

The visit covered seven engineering programmes: Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The team, led by Professor Mohammed Shu’aibu Abubakar, inspected the library, workshops, laboratories, hostels, sporting, recreational and healthcare facilities, and reviewed staff qualifications, student records, admission criteria, coursework, examinations and laboratory reports.

Professor Abubakar commended the University for its conducive working environment, relatively adequate electricity and water supply, good road networks and the professional readiness of its graduates. He stressed that accreditation aims to promote institutional growth rather than to punish institutions.

Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole pledged to act on the team’s recommendations to strengthen the engineering programmes and maintain the University’s standards. Speaking through Deputy Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare‑Odunola, he thanked the team for a job well done and noted that accreditation provides new direction by identifying strengths and areas for improvement.

Registrar Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla called for better coordination among professional bodies, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service and the National Universities Commission to avoid policy inconsistencies. He explained that the University follows official directives regarding the appointment of newly recruited engineering graduates with COREN certification, and reaffirmed the commitment to fair staff treatment while welcoming the team’s recommendations.
