Dangote Cement Plc, Okpella Plant, has handed out scholarships to 80 students and commissioned four 500KVA transformers in its host community. The ceremony took place on Thursday, 29 October 2026, with traditional rulers, community leaders, students, parents, government representatives and company officials present.

The scholarship scheme supports 60 undergraduates studying at various tertiary institutions across Nigeria, each receiving N500,000. IT also covers 20 secondary school students from the host communities, each receiving N100,000. Daniel Obamina, Social Performance Manager of the Okpella Plant, said the programme aims to promote education and create opportunities for young people.

Four 500KVA transformers were installed to improve electricity distribution, support businesses and create a better environment for learning and other economic activities. Obamina explained that reliable power is essential for socio-economic development and that the transformers will help enhance learning environments and the quality of life for residents.

High Chief Peter Afiabor, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Host Communities, praised the projects. He noted that the scholarships will ease families' financial burden and the transformers will address electricity challenges. He described the event as a clear demonstration of constructive engagement between a company and its host communities.

Beneficiaries and parents expressed gratitude, saying the financial assistance will reduce the cost of education amid rising expenses. The interventions form part of Dangote Cement's social investment efforts under its Community Development Agreement, aimed at improving community welfare, promoting youth development and strengthening relations with host communities.
