The University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and the University of Lagos have launched two joint postgraduate programmes. The courses cover artificial intelligence, data technologies, and digital media. The partnership aims to give more Nigerian students access to international education. The programmes include an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Technologies and an MA in Digital Media and Communications. They will start in September 2027. Both universities also plan to introduce joint undergraduate degrees in related subjects. Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, announced the update. He said the initiative helps Nigerian students take foreign postgraduate courses at home. The launch follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed by both universities on 29 January 2026. The Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission set up the programmes through a Transnational Education Unit in Lagos.
