Education Minister Warns Vice-Chancellors On Staff Allowances
Federal university vice-chancellors have been told to pay staff allowances promptly and prioritise staff welfare to prevent academic disruptions.

The Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, has warned vice-chancellors of federal universities against delays in paying approved staff entitlements. These entitlements include the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance, and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure. He gave this warning during a meeting with vice-chancellors, where he stressed the need for transparency in public fund administration.
Alausa stated that while some universities started payments in January, others faced financial constraints as reserves declined. He noted that government intervention resolved funding issues with arrears paid up to September. Despite this, the minister expressed concern that some eligible employees still experience delays in receiving their payments.
He urged university administrators to ensure that eligible employees receive their entitlements promptly and that personnel funds are used correctly. Alausa also called on vice-chancellors to prioritise staff welfare and promote industrial harmony to prevent disruptions to academic activities.
