250,000 Nigerians enrol in federal vocational training at 1,200 centres
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme now has 250,000 participants across the country, showing the scale of the government’s skill‑building effort.
About 250,000 Nigerians are currently participating in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme, according to Blueprint. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and other Technical Education.
The Federal Government created the scheme to help citizens learn skills in different vocations. The minister stated that this training is active across 1,200 centres throughout the country.
The meeting followed concerns raised by lawmakers over communication delays. Committee chairman Fuad Kayode Laguda noted that six separate letters requesting status updates on the programme went unanswered, leading the committee to summon the minister in July and August.
Alausa apologised to the committee, explaining that he did not personally receive the letters. After a closed door session, Laguda told journalists that the discussions were progressive and purposeful, adding that the committee was satisfied and expected better engagement.
